A couple of years ago Macromedia came to town to give IPSA a peak at their newest software bundle called Studio MX 2004. Now, Macromedia is coming back to Birmingham to give us yet another insider's view of their newest software bundle – Studio 8 – which is their "biggest release in Studio history."

With the release of Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, Fireworks, Contribute and FlashPaper – Studio 8 offers designers and developers a new level of expressiveness, efficiency and simplified workflow to create websites, interactive experiences and mobile content.

Greg Rewis, Macromedia's Chief Web Technologies Evangelist, will give us a look at many of the new features packed into Studio 8 and demonstrate the tools and tricks that will make our design and development workflows more efficient.

Since joining the company in January of 1999, Greg has been one of the public "faces" for Macromedia's web publishing suite of software and web application development servers – as well as representing the company's millions of customers in an advocate's role on the product development teams. And Greg definitely knows what Macromedia's customers are thinking – he spends up to 200 days of the year "on the road" talking with customers, giving product demonstrations at trade shows, seminars and conferences, and leading specialized advanced training sessions featuring the Macromedia product line.

"Quite simply, '8' is the biggest release in Studio history and we wanted to give IPSA an opportunity to see it, first-hand," said Greg. "This release is packed with tons of new features, almost all of which were developed in direct response to input we received from over 100 individual customer visits!"

Greg plans to demonstrate all of Studio 8's exciting new features, including:

  • New advanced animation, graphic effects, text tools and interactive video in the new version of Flash
  • The quick, effective use of CSS for layout
  • Drag-and-drop integration of XML-based data
  • The insertion of Flash Video in your HTML designs using Dreamweaver 8
  • And much, much more!

And to make this event even better, Macromedia and IPSA sponsors are rolling out the door prizes including a full version of Studio 8 (a $999 value), t–shirts, O'Reilly Media and Peachpit Press books, magazine subscriptions, and much more.

So join us on October 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this informative meeting to learn all about the new features of Macromedia's biggest release to date.

The cost is free for IPSA members and $10 for guests. Money raised from this event will go to help IPSA plan additional outstanding events for 2006.

Space is limited for this event to the first 150 RSVPs. Unlike other IPSA events, RSVPs are REQUIRED for this event.

Lunch will also be provided by Jason's Deli for an additional cost. You may order a lunch from Jason's Deli for $10 or bring your own.

IPSA September Meeting

IPSA September Meeting

We had a great meeting today with FBI Special Agent Dale Miskell, who took the lead in fighting internet scams while working at the Internet Crime Complaint Center, or IC3, a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center.

TechBirmingham CEO and Birmingham Blogger Curtis Palmer "liveblogged" the meeting over at the TechBirmingham blog.

We are working hard on putting together top-notch programs to finish out the year. Our October meeting is almost ready to announce, so look for it next week. If you have some specific topics you would like to see covered, make sure and let us know by leaving a comment to this post.
